How Does Dental Sedation Work?
Pain Free Dentistry With A Sedation Dentist In Midlothian, VA
Dental sedation is designed to help provide pain free dentistry to patients during their dental visits. As a sedation dentist we can more effectively provide compassionate dental care that meets the needs of each of our patients, because with dental sedation we can help you relax and be comfortable during your time with us.
With dental sedation, our goal is to provide effective and pain free dentistry using the very latest in sedation dentistry techniques. We offer several different dental sedation techniques for pain free dentistry at our Midlothian, VA office near Richmond and Bon Air, and they all work in slightly different ways. For more information about how each of these dental sedation techniques works, please read the information below.
How does Nitrous Oxide work?
Nitrous oxide is a special gas that is administered via a rubber mask that covers your nose. This gas (also called laughing gas) helps your body to relax and stay calmer during dental procedures. Once your dental procedure is complete, our sedation dentist team will turn off the nitrous oxide and you can return to your day as normal.
How does Conscious Sedation work?
Conscious sedation is administered in the form of a special sedative pill. Our team will provide you with the conscious sedation which will need to be taken prior to your visit with us. In most cases conscious sedation pills are taken about an hour before the visit (As a sedation dentist we will provide you instructions as to when the pill needs to be taken before you come in for your procedure) and you will need to have a family member or friend to drive you to and from our office.
How does IV sedation work?
IV sedation is administered directly into one of your blood vessels. Our team will carefully attach the IV to your arm, and monitor how much of the IV sedation you actually need. If you feel that you are not receiving enough of the IV sedation agent in order for you to receive the relaxation you desire during treatment, please let our sedation dentist know.
